Family Pays Emotional Tribute to Gary Burns, Missing Since 2016, Amid Wall of Silence

The family of Gary Burns, who disappeared without a trace in August 2016 while working in Turkey, has paid an emotional tribute to him on the week marking the last known contact with their beloved son and brother. The Burns family’s heartfelt reminiscence comes as they continue to grapple with the agonising uncertainty surrounding Gary’s disappearance, leaving them with more questions than answers.

In a poignant tribute, Gary’s sister Danielle shared, “7 years today was the last time I saw you and took this picture. Little did I know it would be the last  Pictures hold memories ” The Burns family has been enduring an emotional rollercoaster since the chain of events leading to Gary’s vanishing, compounded by the complexities of dealing with authorities in a foreign country.

Gary, who had been working in Turkey for several years, had settled in the country after meeting a girl eight years prior. Throughout his time there, he would regularly keep in touch with his family in the UK, sharing pictures and updates about his life. However, during the winter of 2016, the family grew increasingly concerned when they heard nothing from him, deviating from his usual pattern.

Their worries intensified when staff at the bar where Gary worked informed Danielle that he had not reported for work. Desperate for answers, they turned to social media, hoping to find any leads on his whereabouts. Unfortunately, they received a distressing message from someone purporting to be a friend of Gary’s, demanding payment for information about his disappearance, followed by a chilling message claiming Gary was dead and in the sea.

Despite their efforts to engage with Turkish authorities, the Burns family was left with little choice but to conduct their own investigations. Witnesses came forward, providing information that Gary had been killed and buried in the hills near Icmeler after being given alcohol and forced into a car.

Gary Burns, who was 39 years old when he went missing, had lived between Icmeler and Marmaris for several years. He is described as approximately 5ft 11in tall, of slim build, with brown eyes and dark brown greying hair, speaking with a Merseyside accent. He has a small tattoo on his arm and possibly one on his wedding ring finger.

Terry Burns, Gary’s brother, launched a social media campaign to raise awareness about his brother’s disappearance, hoping for a breakthrough. The family’s efforts also led them to liaise with the Lucie Blackman Trust, an organisation that supports families with missing loved ones abroad, giving them a ray of hope in 2019.

As the Burns family continues their tireless search for answers, they urge anyone with information about Gary’s disappearance to come forward and help bring some closure to their anguishing journey. The heart-wrenching tribute stands as a testament to the unwavering love and determination that remains at the core of their quest to find Gary Burns and unveil the truth behind his baffling disappearance.
